Train stranded – 1050 passengers rescued

A train by name Mahalaxmi express was stranded due to heavy rain. The train was submerged last night and there was no way passengers would come out of the train.

In a 10 hour long operation the NDRF teams, Army and the local people struggled to evacuate the passengers apart from a dozen pregnant women.

The ulhas river overflowed and the train had no way forward. The passengers were stranded for about 18 hours. The IAF, Navy and NDRF teams rescued the passengers.

It can be called a dramatic rescue operation. All the passengers in the Mahalaxmi express are safe and are reaching the destination by way of a special train.

More rain is expected for Monday and it has to be seen how many trains would be cancelled in the process. Some Air services have already been cancelled.
