Onion, Tomato become costlier

Common mans curry has become very costly. Tomato onion curry is said to be the curry of the common man as it was affordable. Two days ago the Tomato was sold at Rs 10 per KG not it is about Rs 50 to Rs 70 per kg depending upon the quality.

This is all due to the rains. The crop has been damaged due to rains in some areas. So both Onion and Tomato are scarce and the production and distribution is not up to the demand.

That is the reason the prices have gone up very high during the festival season.

There is Onions scarcity and the prices have reached Rs 60 per Kg in some states. In some areas, it is Rs 100 per Kg also.Andhra Pradesh Government has started selling Onion at Rs 25 per KG from the PDS system but they are of inferior quality.

The Telangana Government is yet to take a decision on the soaring prices of the Onions here in the state. It is a festival season, and people require a lot of Onion to make food items for these 10 days of Dasara. Next comes the Diwali season and pricing are bringing tears into the eyes of people.

Onion is needed for making all the food items. Rs 20 to Rs 30 per Kg is ok. But they have gone up to Rs 60 which is very high. The state and centre must take a decision over the matter as it is an essential commodity which is used on a daily basis.

The heavy rains in Maharashtra are responsible for the crop loss. The floods in AP also have caused crop loss. The Onions have just perished in the fields in some states due to heavy rains.

This created a lot of demand for the Onions and also tomatoes resulting in the price rise. Government intervention is required to save the common man. There is no life without Onions.
