The draft version of the National Educational Policy 2019 says that all schools must have Hindi as a subject. But the leaders from the South are very unhappy with the decision of the centre, saying that the Government is trying to impose Hindi by force and that it is not acceptable to them. Leaders like Stalin, Shashi Tharoor and Kumara Swamy Gowda have opposed the decision of the new Government on imposing Hindi in all the states for all the school students.

The chorus against Hindi is growing in the Southern states. The leaders from the South are of the opinion that no one was consulted on the draft policy and that they should have been consulted. The leaders from Tamilnadu are of the opinion that they should have been consulted before formulating the National Education Policy. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has intervened and assured the leaders that it was only a draft and that the heads of the states would be consulted before finalising the Education Bill.

Union Minister Nirmala Seetharaman has tweeted that the Government would take the opinion of the leaders into consideration before finalising the Education bill. The imposition of Hindi is also being opposed by the leaders and people in general, like the beef ban. The Government must give liberty to the parents and students to study and learn whatever they want. Like freedom of speech, there should be freedom to chose whatever they want to study. Imposing Hindi on every student is not the right attitude.
