Rahul Gandhi, the Vice President of Congress, said that he was “absolutely ready” to be his party’s candidate for Prime Minister for the 2019 national election when PM Modi will seek a second term. He, however, said that the Congress would take that decision.
“I am absolutely ready to do that….We have an organisational party that decides that and that process is currently ongoing…That decision is something the Congress party should make.”
In 1949, Rahul Gandhi’s great grandfather Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had spoken at the University. He was then Prime Minister of India.
The University had said yesterday that it was closing registrations as they had reached maximum capacity for Mr Gandhi’s address on ‘India at 70: Reflections on the Path Forward.’
